A STUNNING STUDENT FASHION SHOWCASE AT BUSH HALL
INTRODUCTION
On Saturday, 8th March 2025, our team at Sugar & Rind had the privilege of designing and executing an exciting London fashion event – the UCL MODO Fashion Show. Set against the stunning backdrop of Bush Hall in London, this student fashion showcase was a celebration of emerging talent from University College London, bringing together 300 guests, including industry leaders, family, and fashion enthusiasts.
We knew this event required meticulous planning and seamless execution to elevate the students’ designs while also delivering an unforgettable evening. From the runway concept to the after-party, our team ensured every element was perfect, making this one of the standout fashion events of the year.
THE BRIEF
When we were approached to plan and design the UCL MODO Fashion Show and given the brief, we understood that we needed to deliver a bespoke, high-impact venue for emerging designers. Their work was required to stand out in a visually striking space and we had to go beyond a simple runway show. UCL wanted an immersive experience, and every element, from the lighting design to the soundscapes, had to be considered.
The Sugar & Rind team used our expertise to design a lay-out that would highlight each designer’s work, and bring the audience into the creative journey behind each piece.
OUR SOLUTION
We selected Bush Hall London as the venue, knowing that its opulent interior would be the perfect setting for this high-profile event. We worked on a bespoke approach and the team worked closely with lighting designers, sound engineers, and production specialists to transform the space, ready for the catwalk.
BRINGING THE UCL MODO FASHION SHOW TO LIFE
1. Designer Introductions: A Personal Storytelling Approach
To create a strong connection between the audience and the designers, we opened the show with pre-recorded video segments, where each designer shared their inspirations and creative processes. The audience then fully engaged with the collections, before they appeared on the runway.
2. A Striking Runway Experience
Working with UCL and Bush Hall’s in-house tech team, we designed a runway production that ensured every collection was beautifully showcased. As the models walked the catwalk, the designer’s name was projected onto a screen for maximum visibility. We also used strategic backlighting and haze effects to create a cinematic atmosphere.
3. Custom Soundtracks for a Unique Sensory Experience
Each designer selected their own custom soundtrack, which showed the inspiration behind their collection. Our team managed these soundscapes which demonstrated the storytelling involved, and made the event more personal for the audience.
4. The After-Party
Once the catwalk show was complete, we transformed the space into a chic after-party venue, clearing furniture to make it a more social atmosphere. We had a live DJ and curated cocktails, which really made the evening a celebration of these student’s talents.
WHY WE LOVED THIS EVENT
As experienced event planners in London, we understand the importance of creating events that exceed expectations. We felt that the UCL MODO Fashion Show was a statement on the future of British fashion. Giving these young, cutting-edge designers a prestigious platform to gain exposure and confidence was extremely important – and it was hugely satisfying for the Sugar & Rind team to deliver a successful event.
